Frequently Asked Questions

Who do we serve?

Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS) serves adults (18+) struggling with substance use disorders and alcohol dependence. We provide comprehensive assessments to determine whether an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is the appropriate level of care. PLRS serves both men and women and is a good fit for individuals who have stable housing as well as those who are experiencing housing insecurity.

How do I receive services?

The majority of our clients come from shelter guests and long-term program participants at Denver Rescue Mission and Fort Collins Rescue Mission, but we welcome anyone who may benefit from our assistance. If you’re interested in receiving assistance from Pathways of Life Recovery Services, but you’re not involved in a Denver Rescue Mission or Fort Collins Rescue Mission service or program, please contact us at [email protected] or 303.953.3927.

What is the intake process? Are referrals required?

A referral is not required for most individuals seeking services through Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS). However, referrals are typically required for individuals transitioning from a detoxification program, residential treatment program, hospitalization, or the criminal justice system (including jail, prison, probation, or parole).

Individuals may also self-refer by contacting Denver Rescue Mission using the methods listed above. Our team will complete an initial screening, gather information about your needs, and schedule a clinical assessment to determine the appropriate level of care. In some cases, individuals may be referred to a detoxification provider or encouraged to consult with their medical provider before beginning services with PLRS to ensure they receive the safest and most appropriate care.

What services do you offer?

Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS) provides evidence-based outpatient treatment for adults with substance use disorders, including individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducational classes, and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Outpatient (OP) services. Each treatment plan is individualized to meet the unique needs of the person and support lasting recovery. This may include treatment for mental health disorders, referrals for medication assisted treatment of addiction or trauma-specific services.

Do you provide intensive outpatient (IOP), outpatient (OP), Therapy, case management (CM), or other specialized services (Job Search) (Chaplaincy and Career Readiness are a part of the Clean and Sober housing option)?

Yes, we provide all of these options to clients.

How long is the program?

The length of treatment varies based on each individual’s clinical needs, progress, and recovery goals. Because Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS) is a results-based program, there is no predetermined completion date. Treatment plans are individualized, and participants progress through services as they achieve meaningful recovery milestones and demonstrate sustained progress. These milestones are defined by the individual in consultation with the treatment team.

How much does it cost?

The cost to the individual varies based on each individual’s insurance coverage and ability to pay. Insurance information and financial responsibility will be discussed during the intake process. Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS) is committed to helping individuals access treatment and will discuss available payment and financial assistance options on a case-by-case basis.

Where are you located?

Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS) is headquartered at 6090 Smith Road, Denver, CO 80216. While our main office is located in Denver, PLRS may provide services at approved partner locations or other community-based settings as appropriate to support client care and in accordance with applicable regulatory and licensing requirements.

PLRS also intends to expand office-based services to Northern Colorado in early 2027. Additional information regarding our Northern Colorado location will be shared as it becomes available.

What types of therapy, counseling, or support services are included in the program?

Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS) provides evidence-based treatment using approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and relapse prevention. Services include individual therapy, group therapy, and case management, with treatment tailored to each participant’s unique needs and recovery goals. When appropriate, participants may receive care from clinicians with specialized experience in areas such as trauma and co-occurring mental health disorders. Individuals may be referred to other partner providers for medications to assist in treatment of opioid use disorders and mental health conditions.

How do you support long-term recovery?

The program is longer than most. Some programs are only a couple of weeks or a month. This program is 5-6 months and can continue support after graduating the classes. The goal is for the individual to internalize the concepts of recovery and develop the support systems required to sustain recovery at a lower level of care.

Are there aftercare services, support groups, or community resources provided following program completion?

Yes. Throughout treatment, Pathways of Life Recovery Services (PLRS) encourages clients to build a strong recovery support network that extends beyond formal treatment. Depending on each client’s needs, this may include peer recovery support, mutual aid groups, community resources, recovery-oriented activities, and ongoing behavioral health services.

PLRS collaborates with community partners and coordinates referrals, as clinically appropriate, for higher levels of care, primary and specialty medical care, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), psychiatric services, recovery support services, and other community resources. Prior to completing treatment, clients work with their treatment team to develop an individualized continuing care plan to support long-term recovery.
